Quick Response Systems + Just In Time

This type of manufacturing system aims to meet customers orders quickly at the required level of quality, in the right quantity and with minimum waste of raw materials time and resources.
The use of computer systems and ICT enable JIT to function successfully – materials and components are ordered from the supplier and are delivered just before they are needed for production.
JIT:
  • Reduces the need for raw material stocks eg. buttons, zips, fabric, interfacing...
  • Reduces the space required for storage of these components - so more room for actual manufacturing of products
  •  Reduces levels of finished goods waiting to be sold, less need for retailers to have sales on garments they cannot sell
  • Cuts the costs of tying money up in stock so cash-flow is improved
  • Many components arrive already quality checked - saves staff costs in the factory

JIT provides a systems approach to operating all the processes in a manufacturing system. It is so effective that it increases productivity, work performance, quality and reduces costs for the manufacturer and retailer.
